Pacers Snap Skid in Friday Split

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of South Carolina Aiken went 1-1 on Friday evening, snapping a season-high eight-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep of non-conference foe Miles at BankTrust Arena.

The Pacers opened their day by falling 3-2 to Peach Belt Conference rival Montevallo at BankTrust Arena. The Pacers raced out to a 2-0 lead entering intermission. USC Aiken earned a 25-19 victory in the first set and a 25-20 win in the second game.

Montevallo would regroup after halftime to pick up the next three games and the five-set victory. Montevallo won game three, 25-13, and then followed that up with a narrow 27-25 win over the Pacers in the fourth set. Montevallo held off the Pacers by two again in the decisive fifth set, 15-13.

The Pacers easily took care of Miles. USC Aiken opened the match with an emphatic 25-10 win in the first game. They followed that up with a 10-point 25-15 win in the second set that was followed up by a 25-11 victory in the third and final set.

USC Aiken with the split on Friday evening is now 14-17 in the 2009 season. The loss to the Falcons in the first game on Friday dropped the Pacers to 5-9 in PBC action.

Three Pacers finished with double-digit kills in the Montevallo match with Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault), Linsday Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) and Megan Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) all recording double-digit kills. Byers concluded the match with a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs. Mortenson produced 12 kills, while Disney finished the match with 10 kills.

Lauren Cedeno (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) ended the match with 48 assists. She had a double-double as well as she also had 14 digs. Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) led USC Aiken with 18 digs in the Montevallo match.

Not much was needed to take down Miles, leaving it as a total team effort with nobody recording double-digit kills. USC Aiken had four players with five or more kills in the match and nine people in total recorded a kill in the match for the Pacers.

Alex Petock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) had the opportunity to run the Pacer offense in the match, leading the team with 15 assists. Lukralle once again led the Pacers with 14 digs.

USC Aiken will close out its regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 10 against Newberry. The action is slated to get underway from the Convocation Center at 7 p.m.
