DeGraffinreed Sparkles in Season-Opening Victory for Pacers

Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. -  The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team opened their 2009-10 campaign by downing Anderson University 57-48 on the strength of a double-double performance from sophomore transfer Hannah DeGraffinreed.

The Pacers led for all forty minutes of the contest after jumping out to a 32-18 lead by halftime en route to the nine point win. DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack College) finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, registering a double-double in her first regular season opportunity wearing a Pacer uniform. She also dished out a team-high three assists on the night.

Fellow transfer Catherine Cain (Dayton, Ohio/Ohio University) also scored in double figures in her first regular season appearance wearing a Pacer uniform, finishing with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting performance from the floor to go along with six rebounds.

The Pacers had the game sealed in the second half with a 22-point lead, 52-30, before a late Trojan rally reduced the final margin to nine.
USC Aiken as a team shot just under 48 percent in the first half connecting on 11-of-23 field goal attempts, while hitting four of five shots from beyond the arc. The Pacers shooting form cooled slightly over the final twenty minutes as Mike Brandt's squad finished their season-opening victory connecting on 38 percent of their field-goal attempts.

Junior guard Trianna Harris (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added nine points on the night going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, while collecting two boards and handing out two assists to go with a steal.

The Pacers grabbed 29 defensive rebounds on the night, equaling Anderson's 29 total rebounds to finish with a glass cleaning 47 boards.

USC Aiken's season opening road victory is the first of four games the Pacers will play away from the Convocation Center to open the year. Last season USC Aiken raced out of the gates with a 6-0 start during their 2008-09 run into the NCAA Division II Tournament.

|The Pacers will next play in the Lady Jaguar Tip-Off Invitational Nov. 20-21. Brandt and the Pacers will face Glenville St. at 5:30p.m. on Nov. 20 before taking on North Greenville the following day at 4 p.m.
