Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, S.C. - USC Aiken dropped both of its matches at Lander's "Dig Pink" Tournament on Saturday.
USC Aiken opened its day by falling 3-0 to Limestone. The Saints earned a 25-21 win in the first set before pulling away for a 25-18 win in the second game. Limestone earned a tough 27-25 win in the third and eventual final set. The loss to the Saints on Saturday left the two 1-1 against each other in 2009 as USC Aiken bested Limestone 3-1 at the Limestone Southeast Crossover Tournament in September.
USC Aiken closed out its efforts on Saturday by falling in three games to Lees-McRae. USC Aiken fell 25-22 to the Bobcats in the first game before Lees-McRae took a hard-fought 25-23 win in the second game. In the third set, Lees-McRae pulled away for a 25-17 victory.
The two losses dropped the Pacers back to .500 on the year at 13-13. USC Aiken has now lost four straight matches.
Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) paced USC Aiken in the loss to Limestone, capturing a team-best 11 kills. Chelsey Kight (Charleston, S.C./West Ashley) was the only other USC Aiken player with double-digit kills in the Limestone match with 11.
Samantha Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) led the Pacers with 13 digs in the Limestone match, while Lauren Cedeno (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) was the Pacers' top setter in the match with 22 assists.
Lindsay Mortenson (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Santa Margartia Catholic) was the only Pacer with double-digit kills in the Lees-McRae loss with 10 kills. She also had two service aces. Byers posted 11 digs in the Lees-McRae match.
"Dig Pink" is part of the Side-Out Foundation, which raises money to help breast cancer patients. Donations will be accepted during the event, which features nine collegiate volleyball teams.
