MONTEVALLO, Ala. - For the second time in its last three outings, the USC Aiken women's soccer team had an opportunity to pick up a Peach Belt Conference victory in overtime against one of the two new programs in the league, but the Pacers hearts would once again be broken with a 3-2 overtime loss to new league foe Montevallo on Sunday afternoon.

Just one week earlier, USC Aiken had taken the other of the two new programs in the conference in Flagler to overtime, but Flagler earned an identical 3-2 victory at the "Pacer Pit" on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Montevallo needed some late match heroics on Sunday to claim a victory in the first ever PBC meeting between the two programs.

USC Aiken up 2-1 in the final two minutes of regulation, Montevallo's Paige Scott scored her second of the match in the 89th-minute to even the contest at 2-2 and send it into overtime.

Just five minutes into the first overtime, Erin Jollay scored the match-winner.

USC Aiken had arrived on the scoreboard first in the match with Katie Rumble (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) kicking in a rebound off a Megan Killmeyer (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) shot in the 33rd-minute.

A few minutes later, Scott scored her first to even the match at 1-1. The score would remain 1-1 at intermission.

USC Aiken broke through again for a tally in the opening minutes of the second stanza when Alie Brady (Summerville, S.C./Summerville) scored on a blistering shot from 25 yards out at the 55:45 mark.

The Brady cracker looked to be sending USC Aiken to its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season, but Scott's second goal in the final two minutes changed the whole complexion of the match.

Montevallo finished the match with 25 shots. The Pacers in turn took 12 shots in the contest. Montevallo held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

USC Aiken with the extra frame loss is now 2-9 on the 2009 season. The Pacers are 0-6 in the PBC. Montevallo improved to 4-6-1 and 1-3-1 in the league with the win over the Pacers.

The USC Aiken men's and women's soccer teams will play two crucial Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders this week.

The first PBC twinbill of the week for the two programs will be on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in Greenwood, S.C. The Pacer women will kick things off on the day by taking on the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. Immediately following the match, the USC Aiken men will take on the Lander men at approximately 7 p.m.

The USC Aiken women's soccer team will take the pitch for a 1 p.m. match against Peach Belt Conference rival Clayton State on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Aiken, S.C. The match is the first match of a men's and women's soccer PBC doubleheader at the "Pacer Pit" with the Pacer men slated to square off against the Laker men immediately following the women's match at approximately 3:30 p.m.
