AIKEN, SC
– After playing primarily defense in the first half, the
University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team put up
a fight in the second half only to come up on the wrong side of
things. The Pacers were defeated, 1-0, on Wednesday October 15 by
Georgia College and State University. The Cardinal and Navy dropped
to 3-10-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Peach Belt play, while the Bobcats
improved to 9-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in PBC action.
GCSU put pressure on USC Aiken
early and never quite. The Pacers only gave up two shots in the
first period to the Bobcats, with sophomore goalkeeper Nicole
Westphal stopping both of them.
The Bobcats scored their winning
goal in the 47th minute of the game off a shot by Kayla Emerson.
The Pacers recorded their first
shot off a kick by freshman D/M Megan Killmeyer in the 64th minute
that was saved by GCSU goalie Mary Rob Plunkett.
The Cardinal and Navy shot again
at the 45th minute mark when senior D/M Laura Dickson's kick
sailed wide left of the net.
USCA's third shot came off
the foot of sophomore midfielder Brittany Paletar that went right
into the Bobcat goalie for her second save of the night.
USC Aiken will return to the
field on Wednesday October 22 when the Pacers take on Peach Belt
Conference foe Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, GA. The
Cardinal and Navy will play their last home game of the season on
Saturday October 25 against PBC opponent Columbus State. The Pacers
will recognize their seniors before the 6:00 p.m. start.
