Allee Sparks Pacers Past Bears, 65-62

Box Score SALISBURY, N.C.--USC Aiken (3-3) built a 14-point second half advantage and held off a late charge by Lenoir-Rhyne (3-3) to post a 65-62 non-conference win on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym on day two of the Catawba Classic. Junior point guard Mindy Allee had a career day from the three-point line going 4-of-5 with a team-high 14 points to lead the Lady Pacers. Allee and Starnes drilled treys to open the game as USC Aiken raced to a 17-7 spread at 14:42 on Meredith Legg's second-straight triple. The Lady Pacers were 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the opening five minutes. Legg scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half, finishing 2-of-6 from deep.

Trailing 21-9 with 11:51 left in the first half, Lenoir-Rhyne countered with a 12-2 run to draw within a bucket at 23-21 on Joanie White's jumper in the paint. But USCA pushed the lead back out to five at the half 34-29.

After Allee connected on back-to-back three-pointers to open the second half, the Lady Bears matched the hot start, knotting the game up at 40-40 with 16:29 to play on White's inside bucket. USC Aiken, however, countered with a decisive 18-4 run over the next 7:38 to pull out to their largest lead of the game at 58-44 on a pair of free throws by Kendra Chandler. The freshman from Aiken poured in eight of her career-high 13 points in the second half on 5-of-6 shooting.

Two free throws by Allee made it 60-51 with 6:04 left, but Lenoir-Rhyne made their final run, tying the game for the last time at 60-60 with 1:13 remaining on Ashley Gordon's lay-up. Fitting that Allee would be the one to end a five-minute scoring drought and put the Lady Pacers on top 63-60 with her fourth trey of the night with 51 ticks left on the clock.

White got a bucket with 24 seconds remaining to trim it to 63-62, but Legg converted two free throws with 12 seconds on the clock to close out the 65-62 win. White finished with 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field to go with 11 rebounds.

Allee finished with 14 points on 4-of-5 from deep and 2-of-2 at the stripe to go with five assists in 28 minutes. In addition to earning All-Tournament honors, the 5-4 Clayton, Wis. native became the fifth member of the 200-assist club at USC Aiken.

Avonte Williams and Jordon Thomas each grabbed eight rebounds and combined to add seven points. As a team, all nine healthy players that suited up for USC Aiken, scored at least three points. The young team of six freshman, two sophomores, and one junior never trailed in the game.

Kristin Barringer added 12 points off the bench for Lenoir-Rhyne while Sandi Hyatt chipped in 10.

USC Aiken connected on 7-of-18 from three-point land for 38.9 percent and converted 12-of-15 at the line for 80.0 percent. The Lady Bears equaled USCA from deep going 7-of-18 but were 13-of-23 at the stripe for 56.5 percent.

The Lady Pacers return home to host Limestone College on Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 PM.
