Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, FLA.--USC Aiken (19-12, 6-6 PBC) dropped a pair of road Peach Belt Conference volleyball matches at top 25 teams over the weekend. On Friday, the Lady Pacers lost 3-0 at #25 Armstrong Atlantic State (23-6, 8-2 PBC) with game scores of 30-24, 30-19, and 33-31. On Saturday, #8 North Florida (22-5, 12-0 PBC) was too much for USCA to handle winning 3-0 with game scores of 30-18, 30-19, and 30-25.
On Friday,
Jenny Lloyd and
Laura Williams led the Lady Pacers. Lloyd tallied match-highs with 13 kills and 13 digs. Williams had 10 kills, four blocks, and a team-best .333 hitting percentage. USCA managed to hit just .067 including -.012 in the first two games combined. Libero
Brandi Gayle added 13 digs while setter
Rachel Dalitz recorded 31 assists to go with eight digs and two blocks.
Ashley Lavender paced the Lady Pirates with 11 kills while Darcey Krug added eight kills and six blocks hitting .438. AASU hit .220 as a team.
The win marked the 14th-straight for Armstrong Atlantic State over USC Aiken dating back to 1999.
In Saturday's match at eight-ranked North Florida, USC Aiken had better numbers, but the Lady Ospreys still proved to be too much. USCA hit .207 for the match and had just three service errors, but UNF hit an impressive .436 to go with eight aces and 5.0 team blocks in downing the Lady Pacers for the 16th consecutive time.
Lloyd was the lone Lady Pacer in double figures with 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. It marked the 89th career double-digit kill match for Lloyd, a PBC record, and her 32nd in a row. Already the only player in Peach Belt Conference history to record 500 kills in two separate seasons, Lloyd needs just two more kills to pass Kim Merrill's 1997 total of 541 as the second highest single season total in school history, trailing her own mark of 583 set last season.
Williams had eight kills and two blocks hitting .636 while Dalitz, the reigning PBC Specialist of the Week added seven digs, two blocks, and two aces to her 30 assists.
Jackie Struck led North Florida with 18 kills and a .654 hitting percentage. Jennifer King chipped in 13 kills and five blocks while Emily Kohler added 11 kills.
With the win, North Florida not only extended their conference regular season winning streak to 61-straight matches, but they also clinched at least a share of their eighth-straight PBC regular season championship.
USC Aiken will close out the 2004 regular season on the road next weekend. On Friday, November 5 the Lady Pacers will play at Francis Marion at 7:00 PM followed by a Saturday 3:00 PM match at UNC Pembroke. A pair of wins would give USCA its most conference wins since the 2000 squad went 9-5.
