Patriots Edge Pacers In Double Overtime

Box Score FLORENCE, S.C.--Eugene Eshun-Philips scored two goals, including the game-tying score with 16 minutes left in regulation, but Francis Marion's Luca Forno scored from 19 yards out almost three minutes into the second overtime period to give the Patriots a 3-2 win in Peach Belt Conference men's soccer. USCA falls to 5-8-2 overall and 0-5-0 in PBC play while FMU improves to 6-6-1 and 2-1-0 in the PBC. 

Henry Theiling gave the lead to Francis Marion when he scored on a 15-yard shot at the 18:21 mark. Andy Conrad dished out the first of his three assists on the play. USC Aiken answered just over eight minutes later with Philips first goal of the game and of the season. 

The Patriots surged ahead 16 minutes into the second period when Peter Nsubuga followed Conrad's header and beat USCA goalkeeper Harold Tate.

Tate played 65 minutes in goal for the Pacers. He made five saves and allowed the two FMU goals before giving way to Zac Van Frank who also made five saves in the final 25 minutes of regulation play. Marcos Rodriguez played the 12:51 of overtime play, allowing Forno's game winner. Jonathan Runion played the entire match in goal for Francis Marion and made four saves.

Philips game-tying goal came at the 74:00 mark. The junior took a pass from Emmanuel Maduka and beat Runion to the left side.

The Patriots held a 17-14 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. The match witnessed 53 total fouls and 10 cards.

The Pacers will be back in action on Oct. 27, when they host Lander University at "Pacer Pit" on the USCA campus. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
