Box Score AIKEN, SC--Armstrong Atlantic State (19-12, 10-3 PBC) defeated the USC Aiken Lady Pacers (13-19, 5-8 PBC) in three games on Friday night at "The Courthouse" in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action. Game scores were 30-20, 30-24, and 30-23. The Lady Pirates downed USCA for the 12th consecutive time.
With the score tied 15-15 in game one, AASU reeled off seven straight points to seize control of the game 22-15. Sophomore
Amy Long recorded her third kill of the game to break the Lady Pirates' streak, but USCA could only get within 26-20. Four straight points by AASU gave them the 30-20 win. Darcy Krug had two kills in the final run and finished with 11 kills and eight blocks to lead the Lady Pirates.
In game two, the Lady Pacers controlled play through the first half of the game after jumping to an early 5-1 advantage. A service ace by Shannon Tracey capped a 3-0 run to knot things up at 19-19 for AASU. The scored was tied at 21, but five straight points pushed the Lady Pirates out in front 26-21 as they pulled away to the 30-24 win.
AASU dominated the early play in game three claiming a 24-12 lead. USCA, however, did show fight piecing together a 10-4 run to force an AASU timeout, but it was not enough as the Lady Pirates picked up the 30-23 victory.
Traci Knuth tied Krug with team-high honors in kills with 11. She also added seven blocks as the Lady Pirates recorded 18.0 team blocks in three games. AASU also hit .255 for the match compared to USCA's .026.
Long's 10 kills and two blocks paced USC Aiken.
Jenny Lloyd also registered 10 kills.
Brooke Cubbage came off the bench to tally a career-high three service aces.
USC Aiken will host ninth-ranked North Florida tomorrow at 3:00 PM for "Senior Day". AASU travels across the Savannah River to take on Augusta State also in a 3:00 PM match.
