Box Score PEMBROKE, NC--Four days after taking 10th ranked UNC Pembroke to double overtime, the USC Aiken (0-11-0) men's soccer fell 8-0 to the Braves (16-1-0) in the opening round of the 2003 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer tournament on Wednesday night in Pembroke, NC. UNCP, ranked ninth in the latest top 25 poll, advances to face third-seeded Lander while USCA's 2003 season is complete.
The Pacers were on the defensive all night managing just four shots and only one of them on goal. UNC Pembroke, however, fired 24 shots with 13 making it on net. Senior goalkeeper
Peter Calabrese recorded five saves and closes out his stellar career with 229 saves, one shy of David Walker for second on the school's all-time list.
Andre Joseph had three of the four Pacer shots including the one on net stopped by Braves' goalkeeper Alex Hall.
Jamie Cooper registered the other shot attempt.
Ahmet Yenissen scored the match's opening tally in the 29th minute off a touch pass from Sascha Gorres. Thomas Lindal added a marker in the 35th minute from 25 yards out to set the halftime score at 2-0.
Gorres added two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half to stretch the margin to 4-0 in favor of the Braves. Christian Kucklick, Evan Saleeby, Trond Myrland, and John Cooper each added a goal to make it 8-0. Gorres finished with two goals and two assists for a match-high six points.
