Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - USC Aiken's women's soccer team dropped a Peach Belt Conference match to Clayton College & State today, 2-1, at "Pacer Pit" on the USCA campus. Zulynette Olivo's second goal of the game for the Lady Lakers, six minutes before half time proved to be the game winner. The Lady Pacers fall to 2-9-0 on the season and 0-5-0 in PBC play. CCSU earns its first win of the season, improving to 1-10-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the PBC.
Olivo's first goal came 5:21 into the game and gave Clayton State an early 1-0 lead. Olivo's shot from the middle beat USCA goalkeeper
Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) on the right side. Hobbs played the first half, allowing two goals and saving one.
Natasha DaCosta (London, Ontario) tied the game at the 29:43 mark of the first period with her fifth goal of the season. The freshman scored off a deflected pass from
Jen Mascarin (Komoka, Ontario) to even the game, 1-1.
Olivo's second goal, and the game winner, came at the 39:04 mark. Ngozi Ezeocha assisted on the play.
USCA out shot the Lady Lakers 13-11 but CCSU held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. DaCosta led the Lady Pacers with five shots.Â
USC Aiken will play its last non-conference game of the 2003 regular season on Thursday against Shorter College. Soccer action at "Pacer Pit" will begin at 5:00 p.m.
