AIKEN, SC--Senior forward
Mark Turner tallied his third and fourth goals of the season in leading the USC Aiken Pacers (4-3-0) past the Eagles of Carson-Newman College (3-1-1) 3-2 in non-conference men's soccer on Wednesday evening. The Pacers, fresh off their 2-0 upset of then fifth-ranked USC Spartanburg, notched their fourth victory in their last five matches while handing the Eagles their first setback of the 2001 season.
After both teams failed to mark in the first half,
Turner opened the scoring up early in the second half, breaking the scoreless deadlock in the 50th minute off a pass from
Mamadou Ndoye.
John
Powell recorded his first of two Eagle goals in the 53rd minute to again tie the game. But
Turner tallied his second marker of the game in the 67th minute off a cross from
AJ Ikourou to put the Pacers ahead to stay.
Paul Okumu added an insurance goal in the 77th minute on a beautiful setup from
Richard Wolf and
Turner. A late goal by
Powellin the 85th minute turned
Okumu's goal into the game winner.
Jean-Pascal Bozso recorded seven saves for the Pacers who will next face North Florida on Saturday, September 22 at 7:00 PM.
