AIKEN, SC--Richard Wolf's goal in the 79th minute of play Saturday night proved to be significant on numerous levels as the USC Aiken Pacers (8-7-0) blanked Brewton-Parker College (5-9-1) 1-0 in non-conference men's soccer action. Aside from the obvious,
Wolf's marker being the match winner, he also breaks his tie with
Brad Saenz and becomes USCA's all-time leading scorer with 81 career points. Thirdly, the Pacers pick up their eighth win of the season, the most victories since the 1994 squad turned in a 10-9-0 overall record.
The first half saw plenty of action, just not of the goal-scoring variety. Just four shots between the two teams, but the Pacers and Barons combined for 23 fouls and three cards including a two cards issued to Brewton-Parker's
Stuart Fletcher.
USCA finally capitalized on a scoring chance when
Wolf took a
Mamadou Ndoye pass and beat goalkeeper
Ryan Dees one on one with 11:09 left in the match. The Pacers outshot the Barons 7-3 for the match. For
Wolf, it was his sixth goal of the season and his first match winner as the Pacers snap their two-match losing streak.
Jean-Pascal Bozso got the start in goal and made three saves in notching his second complete match shutout of the season.
???????USCA will host Morehouse College on Monday, October 22 at 4:00 PM. This will be "Senior Day" for the Pacers as they say farewell to eight seniors.
