Lady Lakers Down USC Aiken 6-0

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton College & State University women's soccer team shutout USC Aiken 6-0 Wednesday afternoon at Laker Field. The win moved the Lady Lakers to within one game of .500 in just their third year of existence.

Clayton State fired nine shots before finally scoring their first goal at the 23:23 mark when sophomore Cathy Golletti found the back of the net from just outside the right side of the box. With just 57 seconds remaining in the first half, junior Tammy Zaworski scored on a pass from freshman Karen Maddox to put Clayton State ahead at the half, 2-0.

The Lady Laker offensive attack continued in the second half. Eight minutes into the period, Maddox scored on a pass from Golletti to give CCSU a 3-0 lead. Three minutes later, junior Gina Papa tapped in her own rebound off the crossbar for the fourth goal of the match. Maddox recorded her second assist of the day when she passed to junior Mary Samba, who then headed the ball into the net to extend the lead to 5-0. Sophomore Jamie Goetz rounded out the scoring for the Lady Lakers when she connected on a pass from freshman Kerry Overton at the 86:00 mark.

Junior Lindi Lawson and freshman Natalie Durrance combined to record Clayton State's third shutout of the season. Clayton State, which held a 30-2 edge in shots, improves to 6-7-0 on the year, while USC Aiken falls to 0-10-2.
