AIKEN, S.C. – The NCAA Division II 17th-ranked
USC Aiken men's tennis team fell 7-2 to NCAA Division III
third-ranked Emory on Friday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis
Complex.
The loss drops the Pacers below .500 for the first time in the
2010 season. USC Aiken is now 7-8 on the year. Emory with the win
improves to 6-4 on the year.
USC Aiken opened things on Friday afternoon by securing a win at
No. 1 doubles with the Pacer tandem of Gregory Andrade (Sao Paulo,
Brazil/Sergio D'Amorim) and Juan Xavier Ponce (Miami, Fla. /Drury
University) rushing out to their eighth consecutive doubles victory
with an 8-3 win over Emory's Chris Goodwin and Alex Chun.
The doubles win for the duo of Andrade and Ponce was their
12th of the year. The duo is presently 12-3 on the year.
The win at No. 1 singles would prove to be all that the Pacers
would be able to secure in doubles with Emory earning the win at
No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Ponce would acquire USC Aiken's only victory in singles,
downing NCAA Division III sixth-ranked Goodwin 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 at
No. 2 singles. The win was Ponce's team-best 10th
of the season. He is now 10-4 on the year and presently in the
midst of a four-match winning streak.
The USC Aiken men and women will next close out the week with
two home conference matches at the USC Aiken Tennis
Complex.??? ???
The Pacers will first play host to Columbus State at 2:30 p.m.
on Saturday, March 27 before closing the week by hosting Georgia
Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.
