AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout Rebecca Martinez has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24, 2017.
Martinez, a sophomore from Wellington, Fla., guided the Pacers to a 2-0 week in Peach Belt Conference action.
She garnered a career high and school record for digs in a three-set match with 33 in the victory over UNC Pembroke. Martinez also dished out five assists and served up an ace in the match.
In the road win at Flagler, she tallied a match-best 21 digs. Martinez also had a pair of assists while helping the Pacers to a win in St. Augustine, Fla., for the first time since 2014.
For the week, Martinez accounted for 54 digs, seven assists and an ace. She averaged 7.71 digs per set in the two wins.
Martinez leads the PBC in digs per set and is second in total digs.
