AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout
Rebecca Martinez has been named the Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 10, 2017.
Martinez, a sophomore from Wellington, Fla., guided the Pacers to a 4-0 week at the USC Aiken Invitational.
She garnered all-tournament team accolades after an outstanding effort, including two of the top-10 efforts in school history.
After playing limited action in the win over Mount Olive, Martinez posted a match-best 27 digs in the sweep of Barton, marking the third-most digs in a three-set match in school history.
In Saturday morning's sweep of Valdosta State, Martinez tallied a match-high 25 digs, which marked the seventh-most digs in a three-set match in school history. She closed the tournament with 19 digs in the four-set win over Anderson.
For the week, Martinez accounted for 83 digs, tallying 6.38 digs per set. For good measure, Martinez had three aces and a kill in the tournament.
The Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Auto Owners Insurance USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
