Pacers Finish Seventh at Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational
AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken Women's Cross Country team finished in seventh as a team in the 2011 Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational at Pacer Path on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.
The 2011 Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational served as the pre-conference race for the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championship, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Pacer Path.
Augusta State claimed the team title in both the Men's 8K and the Women's 6K at the 2011 Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational.
The Jaguar men with a total of 39 points finished 40 points better than second place team, Flagler (79). Augusta State owned a total team time of 2:17:22.
USC Beaufort with 83 points came in third in the Men's 8K.
The Augusta State women claimed the top team honors in the Women's 6K with 37 points. The Jaguar women concluded their efforts on Saturday with a total team time of 2:03:22.
Flagler came in second with 60 points. Montevallo rounded out the top three in the Women's 6K with 66 points.
Individually, Augusta State's Dustin Ross with a time of 26:33.20 claimed the individual title in the Men's 8K. Ross came in just seconds ahead of second-place finisher Marshall Meyer (26:38.90) of USC Beaufort. Flagler's Michael Lambert finished third with a time of 27:12.30.
In the Women's 6K, Flagler's Taylor Strekel finished first individually with a time of 23:55.60. Augusta State claimed the next two spots with Lyndsay Nichols (24:02.40) finishing second and Jessica Carpenter ending her morning in third individually with a time of 24:16.30.
Keely Gillespie (Belvedere, S.C./North Augusta) was the top Pacer finisher, coming in 14th with a time of 25:31.20.
This year's meet marked the second Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational at USC Aiken's top-of-the-line home course. Clayton State claimed top team honors in the inaugural Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 in both the Men's 8K and the Women's 5K. Clayton State's Fidelis Mutiso (26:39.90) finished first in the Men's race, while Clayton State's Samantha Walling collected first place honors on the Women's side with a time of 19:45.34.
The 2011 Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational featured some of the best college Cross Country programs in the area with Augusta State, Coker, Flagler, Francis Marion, Georgia College, Montevallo, Newberry, Paine, UNC Pembroke and USC Beaufort all competing along with host USC Aiken.
