DUE WEST, S.C. - Two University of South Carolina Aiken women's cross country runners finished in the top 15 individually and the Pacers concluded their first event of the year in fifth place as a team on Saturday morning at the Erskine Invitational.
Senior Jani Linde (Columbia, S.C./Dublin Coffman) finished the 4K run with a time of 17:02 to lead the Pacers with a ninth place finish. Junior Nicole Maitland (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) was not too far behind Linde in 15th. Maitland came in with a time of 17:37.
All five Pacers finished in the top 50 in the Erskine Invitational. Newcomer Nikki Sidaway (Wiley Ford, W.Va./Potomac State) ended the event in 34th with a time of 19:06. Fellow newcomer Nancy Meabon (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Grove Christian) came in just behind in 35th with a time of 19:12.
Lauren Stephens (Aiken, S.C./Aiken Christian) was the final Pacer to come in during the event. A newcomer as well, Stephens concluded the Erskine Invitational in 47th. Stephens crossed the line with a time of 20:09.
Pfeiffer claimed the team title at the Erskine Invitational, finishing just ahead of Spartanburg Methodist, who had the top individual finisher at the event with Rosa Young acquiring the individual meet win with a time of 16:12.
The Pacers will next run in the USC Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The meet will be contested on Friday, Sept. 4, beginning at 7 p.m.
