GREENWOOD, S.C. – The sixth-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team was unable to upset third-seeded Francis Marion in a 6-0 loss to the Patriots in quarterfinal action at the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center at the Jeff May Complex.
The nationally 10th-ranked Francis Marion women's tennis team (17-2) opened things up in the match by sweeping the doubles action.
USC Aiken (13-8) came close to claiming the win at No. 3 doubles, but the Pacer tandem of Andrea Cediel (Cali, Colombia/Cypress Bay High School) and Gina Kothari (Leicester, England/Dixie Grammar School) fell just shy in an 8-6 loss to Francis Marion's Kerry Hall and Caitlin Siney.
Francis Marion from there would claim wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles to acquire the 6-0 win.
Ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, USC Aiken will now have to wait and see if it will earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament.
The NCAA will hold a selection show on NCAA.com on Tuesday, April 24.
