USC Aiken Moves Up to 16th in Latest Golf World/Nike Division II National Poll
NEW YORK – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team moved up two spots to 16th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II College Coaches’ Poll.
USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the latest top-25.
UNC Pembroke is currently ranked ninth, Armstrong is 17th, Georgia Southwestern is 19th and Georgia College is 20th.
Barry is the nation’s No. 1 team presently.
USC Aiken most recently finished tied for first at the Peach Belt Conference Championship. UNC Pembroke claimed the team championship on the first playoff hole.
The Pacers have finished second or above in five of their 11 tournaments so far in the 2011-12 season.
USC Aiken’s best finish came in claiming the team title at the Bearcat Golf Classic on March 27.
USC Aiken will next wait to see if it gets an invitation to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regionals, which will be contested May 7-9 at Rock Barn in Conover, N.C. USC Aiken has advanced to regional play in 19 of the last 20 seasons.
USC Aiken under Hall of Fame head coach Michael Carlisle in the
NCAA Division II Tournament has three NCAA Division II National
Championships (2004, 2005, 2006) and three NCAA Division II
runner-up finishes (1995, 1996 and 1999).
In the past eight years, USC Aiken has five NCAA National
Championships, which includes three team titles and two individual
crowns (Jeff Goff, 2008; Dane Burkhart, 2005).
