USC Aiken to Host UNC Pembroke in PBC Tournament Quarterfinals

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team as the second seed in the Peach Belt Conference East Division will welcome third-seeded UNC Pembroke to the Convocation Center for a PBC Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 1.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children and senior citizens. USC Aiken students and PBC students with valid identification will get in free.

Pacer Club passes and faculty and staff IDs are not valid for the PBC Tournament.

The Pacers finished the 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference season with a 10-8 mark in league play to earn the second seed.

UNC Pembroke finished its league slate tied with Francis Marion for third in the PBC East with an identical 9-9 record.

In a tiebreaking procedure, UNC Pembroke earned the third seed based off a better in-division mark. UNC Pembroke was 7-5 in PBC East games, while Francis Marion was 6-6.

As the fourth seed Francis Marion will play PBC East top seed Augusta State in the PBC Quarterfinals on Tuesday in Augusta, Ga.

USC Aiken and UNC Pembroke (16-10) split their season series in the 2010-11 regular season with UNC Pembroke earning a 78-72 win over the Pacers at the Convocation Center on Jan. 5.

On Feb. 16, USC Aiken downed UNC Pembroke 69-65 in Pembroke, N.C.

The defending Peach Belt Conference Tournament champion Pacers will open their title defense against UNC Pembroke owning a 17-9 record overall.

The regionally-ranked Pacers ended the regular season in the midst of a four-game winning streak. USC Aiken closed the curtains on its 2010-11 regular season campaign having won six of its last eight outings.

The winner of the USC Aiken-UNC Pembroke game will move on to the PBC Tournament Semifinals where they will face off against the winner of the PBC West No. 1 Georgia Southwestern and PBC West No. 4 Clayton State contest at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the Convocation Center.
