2010 Peach Belt Conference Basketball Tournament Website

AIKEN, S.C. - The Peach Belt Conference East second-seeded USC Aiken men's basketball team is preparing to face Peach Belt Conference West fourth-seeded Clayton State in the 2010 Marvin Vanover Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championships semifinals at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 6 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.

The Pacers dominated East third-seeded Francis Marion en route to an 80-59 victory in the quarterfinals to set up the semifinal contest with Clayton State. The Lakers upset NCAA Division II 14th-ranked and PBC West top-seeded Georgia College & State, 77-66, in their quarterfinal match-up in Milledgeville, Ga.

The semifinal is the second of two men's basketball semifinals at the Convocation Center on Saturday with national No. 1 and PBC East No. 1 Augusta State set to square off with West second-seeded Montevallo in the first men's semifinal of the evening at 6 p.m.

The Peach Belt Conference Tournament women's basketball semifinals will be played earlier in the afternoon at the Convocation Center on Saturday, March 6. The first semifinal at 1 p.m. will pit NCAA Division II No. 9 and PBC East No. 1 Lander against NCAA Division II No. 21 and PBC West No. 2 Clayton State. The final women's semifinal of the day at 3 p.m. will feature PBC West No. 1 Georgia College & State against PBC East No. 2 and NCAA Division II No. 17 Francis Marion.

The Peach Belt Conference men's and women's final four will be vying for a spot in the PBC Tournament championship games at the Convocation Center on Sunday, March 7. The Women's Championship game is scheduled to tip-off at 2 p.m. with the Men's Championship contest slated for a 4:30 p.m. tip.

USC Aiken (17-10) and Clayton State (16-12) have made it a habit of late to meet in the PBC Tournament. In the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals in the 2008-09 season, USC Aiken earned a 60-50 victory over the Lakers. One year earlier, the Lakers took a hard-fought triple overtime 89-87 victory over the Pacers in the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game. Both games were played at the Convocation Center.

According to USC Aiken athletic records, Clayton State owns a slight 14-10 all-time series advantage over the Pacers. USC Aiken, which has won three of the last four meetings, fell 90-74 to the Lakers in their only meeting this season. USC Aiken's Byron Faison (Sumter, S.C./Crestwood) posted a career-best 30 points in the game.

USC Aiken has played in the last two Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship games. They are 1-2 all-time in PBC Tournament championship contests having last obtained the tournament crown in 1993.
