AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball player Byron Faison was selected as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on January 18, 2010.

Faison has now won the award twice in the 2009-10 season as he also obtained the award on Dec. 14, 2009.

A junior transfer from Winthrop, Faison has come into his own as of late. Last week, Faison averaged 22 points and 2.5 assists per game. He hit on 53.1 percent (17-for-32) of his shot attempts in the two Pacer games last week.

The shooting guard opened last week by scoring 14 points in USC Aiken's overtime loss to Francis Marion. Faison was 6-for-12 (50 percent) from the field in the game. He hit both of his free throw attempts.

Faison concluded last week by scoring a career-high 30 points in USC Aiken's game with Clayton State. He was an incredible 11-for-20 (55 percent) from the field in the contest.

He was 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc in the game.

On the year, Faison has now scored in double figures in 11 of USC Aiken's 14 games in the 2009-10 campaign.

A native of Sumter, S.C., Faison is averaging a team-best 14.7 points per game in the 2009-10 season. He is even better in USC Aiken's seven league games, averaging 16 points per game.

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
