USC Aiken Baseball Notes - Week 6

Each week throughout the 2017 USC Aiken baseball season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.

Riley Sits Them Down

In the first game of the weekend series at Armstrong State, Connor Riley turned in a brilliant performance. Riley worked six frames and gave up a mere hit. He struck out 11 batters. However, he did not get a decision in the 9-7 victory.

Bonilla's Big Bat

Tied at 7-7 in the eighth inning, Jose Bonilla came through with his bat in the ninth stanza. With two on, he blasted a single to left field, scoring Tyler Ammerman for what turned out to be the game-winning run.

The First Time

In the 9-7 victory over Armstrong State, Hunter Dollander had a first. He worked the eighth inning and picked up his first win over the season.

Spence Is Spectacular

In the first game at Armstrong State, freshman Mitch Spence registered an outstanding ninth frame. After giving up a single to the first person he faced, Spence sat down the next three Pirates for his second save of the season.

Goings, Goings Gone!

At Armstrong State, Nile Goings promptly responded from his team's 1-0 deficit. In the fourth inning, two Pacers were on board when Goings sent a shot over the wall for a 3-1 lead in what turned out to be a 7-2 victory.

Extra! Extra!

Sometimes, games are tough to win. That proved to be the case in the series finale at Armstrong State. The Pacers led 9-4 in the ninth inning, but the Pirates battled back to knot it at 9-9. However, USC Aiken plated three runs in the 10th en route to the 12-9, 10-inning victory.

Perfection

With the sweep of Armstrong State, the USC Aiken baseball team improved to 6-0 in Peach Belt Conference play this year. The Pacers swept Young Harris in Aiken, S.C., before traveling to Savannah, Ga., to dispatch the Pirates.
