Nathan Shanko has been an instrumental part of the success of the USC Aiken men's soccer team the last two-plus seasons.
Although he attended UCF as a freshman, Shanko transferred to USC Aiken prior to his sophomore season. That year, Shanko helped guide the Pacers to their best-ever record. The squad finished 14-6-1, reached the Peach Belt Conference Championship and garnered a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
Shanko was instrumental in the team's success. He played in 19 matches, totaling three goals, including a game-winner, and dished out an assist.
As a junior in 2015, Shanko was a PBC all-academic team selection. He played in all 16 matches, notching 12 starts. Shanko found the back of the net six times and recorded a pair of game-winning goals.
This season, he already has a goal and an assist while starting all seven matches heading into Wednesday's contest at Queens.
As impressive as his on-field stats are, Shanko excels in the classroom as well. Recently he was interviewed about his playing days and his time in the classroom as he will graduate with a degree in mathematics and computer science.
