Palmetto Memorial Golf Tournament Postponed Until Sept. 25
**Due to inclement weather in the CSRA, the 2012 Palmetto Memorial Golf Tournament has been postponed until Tuesday, Sept. 25. The schedule of events and tee-times will remain the same on Tuesday, Sept. 25. We realize that any time you make a date change like this you are subject to losing some players. We hope that does not happen though. It also gives us another week to possibly pick up some players that could not participate on Sept. 18**

Dear Friend of USC Aiken Athletics:
On behalf of the University of South Carolina Aiken, I would like to invite you to participate in this year’s Palmetto Memorial Golf Tournament which will be held at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC on Tuesday, Sept. 18 (Now Sept. 25). This is an annual event held in honor of David Derrick, Barry Johnson, Coach Bobby Roberts and Frank Howard. As you may know, these four people had a significant impact on the Athletic Department at the USCA and they were all long time members at the Palmetto Golf Club. This tournament helps ensure that the endowments established in their names continue to support their passion for sports.
- David L. Derrick - a long time Palmetto Golf Club member and a very active Pacer Club member at USC Aiken. He passed away July 27, 1996 and his family and friends started a USCA golf endowment in his memory.
- Barry Johnson - spent much time supporting amateur athletics in the Aiken and surrounding areas and was also a Palmetto Golf Club member. He passed away in 1995 and his family and friends started a USCA baseball endowment in his honor.
- Coach Bobby Roberts – a former Clemson University basketball coach who retired in Aiken and stayed active in collegiate athletics. A former Pacer Club Board of Directors member, he was always in the stands to watch the USCA men’s basketball team. He passed away on June 22, 2002 and his family and friends started a men’s basketball endowment in his name.
- Frank Howard - another long time USCA supporter who helped build the Pacer’s nationally ranked golf program. He passed away on February 12, 2002. He also assisted thousands of young men as sponsor of Belk Little League baseball teams. In addition, he was a past president of the Aiken HS Booster Club. Mr. Howard was inducted into the Aiken County Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. His family and friends started a USCA golf endowment in his memory.
The format for the tournament will be a 4-Person Captain’s Choice (scramble). For your convenience, tee times can be made by calling USC Aiken at (803) 641-3406 or you can email me at randyw@usca.edu. You may also list your preference for the tee-time on the sign up sheet enclosed and mail that back to USC Aiken. A bag lunch will be available for all participants beginning at 11:30 a.m. In addition, there will be a social and light dinner in conjunction with the awards ceremony starting around 6:00 pm. The entry fee is $100 per person, which includes green fees, cart, range balls, bag lunch, social, dinner and a participant gift!
On behalf of the Derrick, Johnson, Roberts and Howard families and friends, and the USC Aiken golf, baseball, and men’s basketball programs, we would like to thank you in advance for supporting this very worthwhile tournament.
If you cannot play golf but would like to make a donation, please do so. Earmark whether your gift is for the David L. Derrick Memorial Endowed Scholarship, the Barry H. Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship, the Coach Bobby Roberts Endowed Scholarship or the William Franklin Howard Memorial Scholarship.
As you may have noticed with the attached Hole Sponsorship Form, there is another option for participation again this year. You (or your company or business) can sponsor a hole and have a tee box sign, have one player in the tournament and get recognition on tournament handouts and at the awards dinner. Hole sponsorship is $350 for one player or $600 for a team of four.
Thanks again for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you at the Palmetto Golf Course on Tuesday, September 25, 2012.
Sincerely,
Randy Warrick
Director of Athletics
