Senior Kassy Johannsen wrapped up her women’s basketball career in February of 2016 as the school’s career blocked shots leader. Multiple times Johannsen swatted away over five shots a game.
After finishing the 2015-16 season, Johannsen knew she had one more semester of school. Instead of completing her degree by focusing on her studies, Johannsen did something that not many people would do. She picked up a sport that she had not played since her senior year of high school.
While at Holy Family H.S., Johannsen was a multi-sport student-athlete, excelling in basketball, track & field and volleyball. A three-time all-conference honoree in volleyball, she picked up all-state accolades as a senior.
Through hard work in the spring and offseason, Johannsen has fit in with her teammates rather well. Additionally, Johannsen has seen the court in each of the first 10 matches of the season.
She is hitting .150 and posted a career-high eight kills against no errors while hitting .444 against Wingate. Her high thus far is seven digs and for PacerNation, she has been doing what they are accustomed to – blocking shots. Through 10 matches, Johannsen has 21 total blocks, with a career-high four block assists coming in the victory over Lenior-Rhyne.
Watch below as Brielle Jungblut talks with Johannsen about her decision to return to the volleyball court during her last semester at USC Aiken.
